Dr. Jamal Bryant has chosen political allegiance to Democrats over biblical truth. He has made a grievous error by attacking Black Americans who do not support the LGBTQ+ movement, same-sex marriage, and the broader godlessness of the Democratic Party.
His stance exposes a troubling pattern among Black church leaders who conflate political allegiance with spiritual authority. More plainly, they believe there is a flesh-based answer to a spiritual problem (Eph. 6:12).
Furthermore, and as I offered in a previous article, Dr. Martin Luther King's anointing was that of a prophet which modern pastors do not have.
This is crucial because they pour old wine into new wine skins and expect results in modernity (Luke 5:37-38).
Barack Obama and Jamal Bryant's Error
Bryant’s mistake echoes a lesson that former President Barack Obama also failed to grasp—humility (Prov. 22:4, Matt. 7:16, Gal. 5:22-23). In his attempt to shame Black Americans for not supporting Kamala Harris, Obama miscalculated his influence, assuming that his political authority remained absolute.
Surprise, surprise Mr. President!
Similarly, Bryant assumes that Black Christians should follow him unquestioningly, portraying dissenters as misguided children incapable of independent thought (Prov. 16:18, Rom.12:3, Gal. 6:3).
It is no secret that many church leaders believe in the superiority of their calling and anointing. Having been in church leadership for over two decades and currently serving as a pastor, I have witnessed this firsthand.
Over the years, I have presented the theological case for the equality of the gospel and challenged any so-called church "demi-god" to prove otherwise (Job 34:19, John 3:15-18, Acts 10:34-35). Unsurprisingly, such challenges are often met with silence, as many ministers despise being questioned.
Those who dare to challenge church leaders are quickly branded as tools of the enemy (Prov. 28:4, Eph. 5:11, 2 Cor. 10:4-5).
Obama’s Waning Influence and Political Shaming
During the 2024 presidential campaign, Obama learned that his influence within the Black community had significantly diminished. Lacking self-awareness, he berated Black men for supporting Trump over Harris.
However, as a pastor devoted to the Word of God, which condemns favoritism and upholds equality, I do not engage in worldly politics (Rom. 12:2, Jam. 4:4, 1 John 2:15-17). Neither Democrats nor Republicans adhere to the doctrine of Christ or demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23, 2 John 1:10-11).
Because both reject foundational biblical principles, Christians should shun both, at least according to the Word of God (Prov. 4:14-15, 1 Cor. 5:11, 2 Cor. 6:14-17). Often, this position is rejected in favor of the “lessor of two evils” view.
The argument that Christians should "balance all the evidence" and support the lesser of two evils is flawed (Prov. 24:24-25, Isa. 5:20).
It suggests that "light has fellowship with darkness" and that "some lies are of the truth," both of which the Bible refutes (John 1:5, 1 John 2:21). This flawed reasoning fuels the latest outrage against God's authority by Jamal Bryant, pastor of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Atlanta.
Jamal Bryant is a Coon a Well
Bryant recently referred to Black Trump supporters as "coons" and other derogatory terms. His approach is a satanic attempt to present himself as a successor to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., but in reality, he distorts King’s legacy.
In my article, Dr. King’s Dream Has Become a Nightmare, I detail this fallacy further.
Unlike political pastors who blindly follow a party, Jesus never picked sides and instead remained resolute in supporting only righteousness. He healed the servant of a Roman centurion, a member of an occupying force despised by Jews (Matt. 8:5-13).
He also sat with Samaritans, an outcast ethnic group, offering them living water rather than demanding tribal loyalty (John 4).
When the Pharisees tried to trap Him into a political stance—"Should we pay taxes to Caesar?"—Jesus responded, "Give to Caesar what is Caesar’s, and to God what is God’s" (Matt. 22:21). His mission was to transform hearts, not back political factions (Matt. 5:44, Luke 6:27-28).
The only difference, by Bryant's reprobate philosophy, which exists between he and Black Republicans is who they "buck dance" and "coon" for. Both are satanic tools to keep the people in outer darkness.
Jamal Bryant’s Partisan Democrat Platform
In contrast to Jesus, Bryant wields his pulpit as a partisan weapon, casting Black Trump supporters as traitors and Republicans as divine adversaries (2 Pet. 3:16, 1 Tim. 1:5-7). His bias in favor of the Democratic Party is blatant.
Black Christian Democrats and white MAGA Republicans both view the other as enemies.
When Biden ruled, some claimed God was with America, but now that Trump has returned, others claim that the Lord has restored the nation to Christianity (Philipp. 1:27, Eph. 4:4-6, Rom. 15:6).
None of this confusion is Holy Spirit-led (1 Cor. 14:33, Jam. 3:16). Bryant’s history of politicizing faith is well-documented. For example, he called Black pastors who met with Trump "prostitutes" and refused dialogue unless Trump first met with Black Lives Matter activists (Rom 3:4, Isa 5:20).
While I agree that Black pastors begging for Trump’s scraps are compromising the Word of God, so too are leaders who pander for Democratic attention (Matt. 7:3-5, John 7:24). Paul warned the Roman church against hypocrisy—judging others while committing the same sins (Rom. 2:1-3).
Jesus did not boycott Rome or curse collaborators—He ate with tax collectors (Matt. 9:10-11, Luke 15:2). By biblical standards, and assuming Trump is our enemy, the pastors who met with him are more aligned with Christ’s approach than Bryant is (Matt. 5:44, Luke 6:27-28).
Bryant preaches another gospel, shaped by electoral cycles rather than eternal truth (Gal. 1:6-9). While the Bible calls for the condemnation of evil, one cannot become evil to combat it (Matt. 12:22-30).
Church Deception of DEI and Affirmative Action
With Trump dismantling sixty years of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives—which are distinct from true Affirmative Action—Black pastors across the nation have sounded the alarm.
However, Bryant and other national preachers fail to see the difference between the LGBTQ+ movement infiltrating civil rights and genuine racial justice efforts. DEI is based on subjective identity claims, while Affirmative Action is rooted in verifiable, God-given genetics and natural order (Gen. 1:27, Gen. 2:7).
More plainly, it is because church leadership supports godless Democrats, and others wicked Republicans, that true Civil Rights gains have been scuttled. Jamal Bryant’s ignorance and therefore silence has caused the unrighteous anger he now hoists upon others!
Throughout the rise of the transgender movement and its integration into racial justice causes—especially through organizations like Black Lives Matter—preachers like Bryant remained silent or even encouraged the godlessness.
While protesting George Floyd’s murder was not inherently wicked, aligning with a movement built on unbiblical principles invites the judgment we are experiencing at the hand of Trump (Psalm 127:1).
The True Call of the Church
Why do elite church leaders sow such confusion? Because they neither believe the Word nor seek understanding. Their goal is not the healing of God’s people or the justice that Dr. King pursued but rather power, prestige, and position (Matt. 23:1-7, Acts 20:30).
Bryant’s deception is evident—when a national transgender magazine endorses his ministry, it is clear whom he serves (John 8:44).
While I do not endorse any Christian’s participation in worldly politics, I rejoice that younger Black Americans are increasingly rejecting the control of political pastors whose only goal is Oval Office access at the expense of truth.
As a pastor, I remind God’s people that they are called to follow Christ, not men (1 Cor. 11:1). Jamal Bryant has followers but I am afraid it is at the expense of Jesus's Holy Name.
Whether George Bush, Obama, Trump, or Biden, God establishes and removes leaders, and His ways are higher than ours (Dan. 2:21, Isa. 55:8-9). All of these leaders are sinners and therefore require a prophetic call to be righteous (Rom. 2:11, Jam. 2:9).
True spiritual admonishment leads people to righteousness and repentance, as Jesus and John the Baptist proclaimed: "Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand" (Matt. 4:17, Luke 3:3). Jamal Bryant did not call people to righteousness through his vile and demonic tirade of flesh-based rhetoric!
During the 2024 presidential campaign, he endorsed the radical abortionist and transgender advocate Kamala Harris. Furthermore, he allowed Harris into the church he leads to spew her satanic vomit while Jamal cheered.
Had Kamala won, black Pastors like Jamal would have acces to the levers of government power which Trump has denied them. That, beloved, is what this is all about - the acquisition of worldly power to increase the black preacher's influence.
None of them care about Jesus, or His people, as demonstrated through a total surrender to political cognitive dissonance. My guess is Dr. Bryant does not even know what that means!
To Bryant and wayward shepherds, I extend repentance through Christ (Luke 5:31-32). Your pattern—succeeding Eddie Long, who also disgraced the church—spans over a decade, straying from a pastor’s biblical qualifications (1 Tim. 3:1-7, Jer. 23:1-2, Ezek. 34:2-4).
Jamal, you risk gaining the world while losing his soul (Matt. 16:26). If you come to this city again, and if the Lord allows, you will be graced with a prophetic message, uninvited of course, of the Lord's righteous indignation at what you have become.
To God’s people, I say: follow leaders only as they follow Jesus (1 Cor. 11:1). Validate this with Scripture—if you won’t, you enable men like Bryant to thrive on blindness.
